Shots on target bet builder, explained

A shots on target bet builder pairs two selections into one price: a team to win, and a named player to record at least one shot on target. It is the most common two-leg shape punters build, and the one we post every matchday. This page explains both legs, how the price is built, and what the shape can and cannot tell you.

What counts as a shot on target

The 1+ line needs one shot on target across the whole match. A second shot makes no difference to the result. The common core of the definition: a goal counts, a keeper's save counts, a clearance off the line counts. Shots that are blocked or fly wide do not.

Settlement rules differ slightly between bookmakers, so read your own book's market rules before you place. Deflected shots are the classic edge case. Most books count them. The wording is each book's own.

Why the two legs belong together

The legs are correlated, and that is the appeal. A team in control spends more time in the opposition half, and its forward shoots more. If the first leg lands, the second has usually lived a good life too.

The same correlation cuts the other way. When the result leg dies, the shots leg often dies with it. The two failures cluster. A builder is not two independent bets at a combined price; it is one story told twice. Read the pair as one opinion, and price it as one.

How the price is built

Decimal prices multiply. Inter to win at 2.51 with Lautaro Martínez 1+ shot on target at 1.20 gives 2.51 × 1.20 = 3.01. Implied probability is one divided by the price, so 3.01 implies about a 33% chance before margin.

A builder with short legs can still carry a long price. The 1.11 shot on target leg looks almost certain on its own. It needs to fail only once to sink the whole builder. That is why each leg deserves its own read, not just the headline price.

Three real builders, all of them lost

These are the first three builders we ever posted, at the prices we quoted before kick-off. All three lost. A worked example that only wins is advertising. The settlement is public on the record.

Then read the pick, not the shape

The shape is the container. The product is the read behind it: why these two legs, at this price, with the implied probability stated. That is what our free builder shows every matchday, posted before kick-off or not at all.
